This compact device is an ideal choice for professionals needing precise welding capabilities in diverse industrial and workshop environments. A key factor in the effective operation of this equipment is maintaining a nominal current range between 12 and 14 A, which ensures optimal performance. The PATON™ PRO-270 is a reliable tool, ready to meet the challenges of demanding applications.
IDLE VOLTAGE REDUCTION MODULE IN MMA MODE
The PATON™ PRO-270-400V model is equipped with an idle voltage reduction module, ensuring safe operation in demanding environments such as natural gas tank construction and maintenance work. This feature is crucial in settings where high electrical safety standards are prioritized. Once the electrode is disconnected from the workpiece, the module automatically reduces the voltage at the source terminals to a safe level below 12V within 0.1 seconds.
This welder is designed for maximum versatility and user convenience, allowing precise welding with electrodes featuring various types of coatings. The default slope of the current-voltage characteristic (CVC) is set to 1.4 V/A, which is optimally suited for popular rutile and rutile-cellulosic electrodes, such as the PATON™ 6013 ELITE, widely used in general construction, repair work, and welding thin steel sheets.
For optimal welding conditions with basic-coated electrodes (e.g., PATON™ 7018 ELITE, PATON™ 7015 ELITE), it is recommended to adjust the CVC slope to 1.0 V/A, enhancing arc stability and improving weld quality. These electrodes are ideal for welding thick steel structures, bridges, and load-bearing components where high joint strength is essential.
For cellulose-coated electrodes, the optimal CVC slope ranges between 0.2–0.6 V/A. Cellulosic electrodes, such as E6010 and E6011, are excellent in challenging field conditions where weld reliability and durability are paramount. The E6010 electrode, characterized by deep penetration and stable arc performance, is particularly recommended for welding pipes and structures in the oil and gas industry, especially in vertical positions, including downhill welding. To further enhance arc stability, it is recommended to increase the “Arc-Force” setting to 18V, ensuring better control and higher weld quality.
ADJUSTABLE HOT START PARAMETERS
Our technology delivers optimal ignition performance, ensuring efficient arc initiation even with low ignition potential electrodes. This capability results in deeper and more uniform penetration of the base material right from the ignition stage, minimizing the risk of damaging the workpiece. Additionally, this function actively mitigates the formation of slag inclusions during the welding process, providing a clean and durable weld.
ADJUSTABLE ARC FORCE PARAMETERS
The adjustable parameters of the Arc Force function are a critical element that allows for precise customization of the welding characteristics to meet the specific requirements of the material and task. With this feature, users can manually adjust the arc force, offering dual benefits:
Fine Operations on Thin Materials: The ability to reduce the Arc Force setting to its lowest level is ideal for working with thin metals. This not only conserves energy and optimizes heat distribution but also minimizes the risk of burning through the material. However, it is important to note that at this setting, the arc stability may be slightly reduced, akin to the operation of traditional transformer-based power sources.
Enhanced Arc Stability: For tasks requiring exceptional arc stability, the Arc Force function can be increased to its highest level. This setting provides excellent short arc stability, which is crucial for achieving high-quality welds. However, it should be noted that this requires a robust power supply and may slightly increase the risk of burning through the material.
DURABLE WELDS, CRAFTED WITH PRECISION
The pulse welding technology by PATON International, which includes both the GTAW LIFT and SMAW PULSE methods, ensures exceptional durability and strength of the weld.
TIG LIFT PULSE
This technique enables precise welding with controlled arc ignition by touching the tungsten electrode to the material and then lifting it (LIFT). When the device detects this movement, it interprets it as a signal to initiate the welding process, resulting in a linear increase in welding current up to the preset value. The pulsing function in this method regulates the welding current in pulses, allowing for precise heat input control and preventing material overheating. This approach allows for high-quality welds, particularly when welding thin materials or in challenging welding positions.
SMAW PULSE AND SHORT ARC: STABLE ARC AND IMPROVED CONTROL
In the context of welding with the SMAW PULSE method, minimizing the risk of short circuits is one of the key advantages of the pulsating welding current.
During pulse welding, two current levels are employed: the base current (lower) and the pulse current (higher). The base current is maintained for most of the duration, serving to stabilize the arc, while the pulse current is applied in short bursts, facilitating the transfer of molten metal droplets from the electrode to the weld pool.
SHORT ARC TECHNOLOGY FOR ENHANCED PRECISION AND STABILITY
Technology significantly enhances stability during welding with minimal electrode-to-workpiece distance. This feature is especially effective in tasks requiring delicate and precise arc control, which is crucial when welding thin sheets or intricate components. It provides superior control over the weld pool, reducing spatter and facilitating welding in various positions, such as overhead work or vertical welding. The result is typically shallow penetration, a stable arc, and cleaner welds. However, it is essential to select the appropriate electrodes to achieve optimal results.
VOLTAGE STABILIZATION, LONG EXTENSION CORD SUPPORT, AND GENERATOR OPERATION
The PATON™ PRO 270 inverter welder is equipped with a voltage drop protection system, enabling optimal performance at a rated current of 270A, even under demanding conditions. The device maintains efficiency when powered through long extension cords, such as up to 135 meters with a 4 mm² cross-section or up to 80 meters with a 2.5 mm² cross-section, and while operating with power generators.
The PATON™ PRO 270 can be powered by various types of generators, provided that they meet the necessary technical parameters. Generators equipped with Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) or an equivalent system, and with a nominal power that complies with the user manual requirements, are particularly recommended. The generator’s output voltage should fall within the range of 340V – 460V to ensure smooth and safe operation of the device.
For welding with shielded electrodes of up to Ø5 mm in diameter, TIG welding using tungsten electrodes up to Ø2.4 mm in diameter at a rated current of up to 200A, as well as MIG/MAG welding with solid wire up to Ø1.0 mm, a minimum generator power of 7.7 kVA is recommended.
Alternatively, for MIG/MAG welding with Ø1.0 mm solid wire and shielded electrodes up to Ø4 mm in diameter at currents up to 160A, a generator with a power of 6.0 kVA will be sufficient.
INTEGRATED WELDING PARAMETER MEMORY: FASTER SETUP AND GREATER EFFICIENCY
Our welding unit allows storage of up to 16 programs in each of the SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW modes. Upon startup, it automatically activates program number 1, with any changes to settings saved immediately. With a simple, one-button program switch, you can quickly return to preferred settings, minimizing downtime. The unit’s memory enables saving parameters for various tasks, reducing preparation time and optimizing the welding process.
WIRED REMOTE CONTROL
Remote control in MMA (Manual Metal Arc) welding refers to the ability to adjust welding parameters from a distance during the welding process. This type of system is valuable in various welding scenarios, particularly where the operation is conducted in hard-to-reach or hazardous locations. Remote control technology allows operators to adjust parameters, such as current intensity, without needing to approach the welder. This option is available upon request.
FAN STOP DYNAMICS AND ERGONOMIC BODY ENGINEERING
PROTECTION CLASS IP33
The welder’s housing is rated IP33, which means it is protected against the ingress of foreign objects larger than 2.5 mm in diameter and against water droplets falling at an angle of up to 60° from the vertical. This level of protection ensures safe and efficient operation during light rain or accidental splashes. However, caution should still be exercised, as welding during heavy rain can increase the risk of electric shock, particularly on damp working surfaces.
ADVANCED COOLING SYSTEM
The unique design of the welder’s housing and optimized airflow through the cooling chamber significantly extend the lifespan of components, durability, and duty cycle, even in highly dusty production environments. Additionally, the device features an advanced adaptive fan speed control system, where the fans automatically stop when the welder is in idle mode.
