- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding): An ideal solution for welding carbon steels, stainless steels, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. The pulsed current function enables precise and efficient welding, even under challenging conditions.
- GTAW DC (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding – Direct Current): A precision arc welding method in an inert gas shield, perfect for tasks requiring the highest accuracy. The pulsed current option allows even greater control over the process, ensuring optimal results.
- GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding): The CC/CV (Constant Current/Constant Voltage) system allows for semi-automatic welding with solid wire (MIG/MAG) or self-shielded wire (FCAW-S, FCAW-G) when connected to an external wire feeder. This feature enables the device to be transformed into a lightweight, portable machine that maintains optimal performance across a wide range of materials, from thin sheets to heavy steel structures.
- CAC & CAC-A (Carbon Arc Cutting and Air Carbon Arc Cutting): When used with the proper accessories, the machine enables efficient carbon arc cutting for various industrial applications. This technology ensures fast and precise removal of metal parts. An electric arc is created between a carbon electrode and the metal workpiece, generating a high-temperature arc that melts the metal, which is then removed.
CRAFTED TO MEET YOUR DEMANDS
The PATON™ PRO-500 is a tool that makes every job simpler, more precise, and more comfortable. Features such as adjustable Hot-Start, Arc-Force, and automatic Anti-Stick significantly ease the initiation of welding, providing better control over the welding arc and minimizing the risk of electrode sticking. This results in smoother, more efficient welding, even under the most challenging conditions.
This compact device is a practical choice for professionals requiring precise welding equipment across various industrial and workshop environments. A key element in its efficient operation is ensuring a nominal current range of 30 to 35.5 A, guaranteeing optimal functionality. The PATON™ PRO-500 is a reliable tool, regardless of the challenges its user may face.
IDLE VOLTAGE REDUCTION MODULE IN MMA MODE
The PATON™ PRO-500-400V model is equipped with an idle voltage reduction module, ensuring safe operation in demanding conditions, such as natural gas tank construction or maintenance work. This feature is essential in environments where high electrical safety standards are a priority. Once the electrode is removed from the material, the module automatically reduces the voltage at the source terminals to a safe level below 12V within 0.1 seconds.
The welder is designed for maximum versatility and user convenience, enabling precise welding with electrodes of various coating types. The default slope of the current-voltage characteristic (CVS) is set to 1.4 V/A, which is compatible with popular rutile and rutile-cellulose electrodes, such as the PATON™ 6013 ELITE, commonly used in general construction, repair, and thin steel sheet welding applications.
For optimal conditions when working with basic-coated electrodes (e.g., PATON™ 7018 ELITE, PATON™ 7015 ELITE), it is recommended to adjust the CVS slope to 1.0 V/A, enhancing arc stability and weld quality. These electrodes are ideal for welding thick steel structures, bridges, and load-bearing components, where high joint strength is critical.
Conversely, for cellulose-coated electrodes, the optimal CVS slope ranges from 0.2–0.6 V/A. Cellulose electrodes, such as E6010 and E6011, are well-suited for challenging field conditions, where weld reliability and durability are paramount. The E6010 electrode, known for its deep penetration and stable arc, is particularly recommended for pipe welding and structural applications in the oil and gas industry, especially in vertical positions, including downhill welding. To further enhance arc stability, it is advisable to increase the Arc-Force setting to 18V, providing superior control and higher weld quality.
CARBON ARC CUTTING OR CARBON ARC CUTTING WITH AIR (CAC OR CAC-A)
The PATON™ PRO-500 welder enables Carbon Arc Cutting (CAC or CAC-Air), a method that involves melting the metal edge using an electric arc between a carbon electrode and the metal. This technique differs from traditional welding as it focuses on material removal rather than joining.
In the gouging process, the welding current passing through carbon electrodes generates a plasma arc that melts the metal by liquefying it. In CAC-Air, the molten metal is removed using a stream of compressed air directed by nozzles. The required carbon electrode is coated with a copper layer for efficient conductivity and arc stability.
ABICOR BINZEL™ K10 and K12 gouging torches are specifically designed for arc gouging with carbon electrodes and compressed air, intended for industrial and commercial use by qualified personnel. These gouging torches are available as handheld units and can be used in any welding position. Gouging torches must be operated only with genuine ABICOR BINZEL™ replacement parts to ensure performance and safety.
ADJUSTABLE HOT START PARAMETERS
Our technology ensures the highest ignition efficiency, guaranteeing optimal arc initiation, even with electrodes that have a low ignition potential. This allows for deeper and more consistent penetration into the base material right from the start, minimizing the risk of damage to the workpiece. Additionally, this feature actively prevents slag inclusions during the welding process, ensuring a clean and durable weld.
ADJUSTABLE ARC FORCE PARAMETERS
Adjustable Arc Force parameters are a key feature that allow precise tuning of the welding characteristics to meet the specific material and task requirements. This function enables users to manually adjust the arc force, offering a dual advantage:
- Gentle Operations on Thin Materials: Lowering the Arc Force setting to the minimum level is ideal for working with thin metals. This not only conserves energy and optimizes heat distribution but also minimizes the risk of burning through the material. However, it is important to note that at this setting, arc stability may be somewhat reduced, resembling the performance of traditional transformer-based sources.
- Enhanced Arc Stability: For tasks that require exceptional arc stability, the Arc Force function can be increased to its maximum level. This setting provides excellent short arc stability, which is crucial for achieving high-quality welds. It should be noted, however, that this requires robust power supply and may slightly increase the risk of burn-through in certain materials.
PRECISE AND ROBUST WELDS
PATON International’s pulsed welding technology, encompassing both GTAW LIFT and SMAW PULSE methods, ensures exceptional weld durability and strength.
TIG LIFT PULSE enables precise welding with controlled arc ignition through touching the tungsten electrode to the material and then lifting it (LIFT). When the machine detects this movement, it interprets it as a signal to start the welding process, causing a linear increase in the welding current up to the preset value. The pulsed function in this method involves modulating the welding current in pulses, allowing precise control over heat input and preventing material overheating. This results in high-quality welds, particularly advantageous for welding thin materials or performing in challenging welding positions.
SMAW PULSE AND SHORT ARC: STABLE ARC AND ENHANCED CONTROL
In the context of welding with the SMAW PULSE method, minimizing the risk of short circuits is one of the key advantages of the pulsating welding current.
During pulse welding, two current levels are employed: the base current (lower) and the pulse current (higher). The base current is maintained for most of the duration, serving to stabilize the arc, while the pulse current is applied in short bursts, facilitating the transfer of molten metal droplets from the electrode to the weld pool.
SHORT ARC Technology
SHORT ARC technology significantly enhances stability during welding with minimal electrode-to-workpiece distance. This feature is especially effective in tasks requiring delicate and precise arc control, which is crucial when welding thin sheets or intricate components. It provides superior control over the weld pool, reducing spatter and facilitating welding in various positions, such as overhead work or vertical welding. The result is typically shallow penetration, a stable arc, and cleaner welds. However, it is essential to select the appropriate electrodes to achieve optimal results.
VOLTAGE STABILIZATION, LONG EXTENSION CORD SUPPORT, AND OPERATION WITH GENERATOR POWER
The PATON™ PRO 500 inverter welder is equipped with a voltage drop protection system, allowing it to operate optimally at a rated current of 500A even in demanding conditions. The device maintains its efficiency when powered through long extension cords, for example, up to 85 meters with a 6.0 mm² cross-section or up to 55 meters with a 4.0 mm² cross-section, as well as during operation with power generators.
The PATON™ PRO 500 can be powered by various types of generators, provided they meet the required technical specifications. Generators with automatic voltage regulation (AVR) or equivalent are particularly recommended, with a rated power capacity that complies with the user manual requirements. It is important that the generator’s output voltage falls within the range of 340V to 460V, ensuring smooth and safe operation of the device.
For welding with shielded electrodes of up to Ø8 mm in diameter, TIG welding with tungsten electrodes up to Ø5.0 mm, and MIG/MAG welding with solid wire of Ø1.6 mm at rated currents up to 500A, it is recommended that the generator have a minimum power rating of 30.5 kVA.
In contrast, for welding with solid wire of Ø1.0 mm and shielded electrodes of Ø4 mm at currents up to 160A, a generator with a power capacity of 6.0 kVA will be sufficient.
INTEGRATED WELDING PARAMETER MEMORY: FASTER SETUP AND INCREASED EFFICIENCY
Our welding unit allows for the storage of up to 16 programs in each SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW mode. Upon powering on, it automatically activates program number 1, and any adjustments to settings are saved instantly. With a simple one-button program switch, you can quickly return to preferred settings, minimizing downtime. The device’s memory enables saving parameters for various tasks, reducing setup time and optimizing the welding process.
WIRED REMOTE CONTROL
Remote control in MMA (Manual Metal Arc) welding refers to the ability to adjust welding parameters remotely, often from a certain distance, during the welding process. This type of system is beneficial in various welding scenarios, especially where welding operations are conducted in hard-to-reach or hazardous locations. Remote control technologies allow operators to adjust welding parameters, such as current intensity, without needing to approach the welder. This option is available upon request.
FAN STOP DYNAMICS AND ERGONOMIC BODY ENGINEERING
PROTECTION CLASS IP33
The casing of the PATON™ PRO 500 welder is rated with an IP33 protection class, which means it is safeguarded against the ingress of foreign objects larger than 2.5 mm in diameter and against water droplets falling at an angle up to 60° from vertical. This level of protection ensures safe and effective operation during light rain or accidental splashes. However, caution should still be exercised, as welding during heavy rain can pose an electrical shock risk, especially on damp work surfaces.
ADVANCED COOLING SYSTEM
The unique housing design and optimized airflow system within the cooling chamber significantly enhance component lifespan, device durability, and duty cycle, even in highly dusty production environments. The welder features an advanced adaptive fan speed regulation system, where the fans automatically shut off in idle mode, allowing for quiet operation and reduced energy consumption.
