VERSATILITY AND PRECISION IN ONE: THREE WELDING METHODS WITH CUTTING FUNCTION
- SMAW (Manual Metal Arc): Ideal for welding carbon steels, stainless steels, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. The pulse current function allows for precise and efficient welding, even in challenging conditions.
- GTAW DC (Tungsten Inert Gas): This precision arc welding method in an inert gas shield is excellent for tasks requiring the highest accuracy. The pulse current capability offers even greater control over the welding process.
- GMAW (Metal Inert/Active Gas): The CC/CV functionality enables semi-automatic welding with solid wire (MIG/MAG) or self-shielded wire (FCAW-S, FCAW-G) when an external wire feeder is connected. This allows the unit to be transformed into a lightweight, portable machine that maintains optimal efficiency across a wide range of materials, from thin sheets to heavy steel structures.
- CAC & CAC-A (Carbon Arc Cutting or Air Carbon Arc Cutting): Using the appropriate accessories, the machine enables efficient carbon arc cutting for various industrial applications. This technology provides quick and precise removal of metal parts by generating an electric arc between a carbon electrode and the metal workpiece. The arc’s high temperature melts the metal, which is then removed effectively.
DESIGNED WITH YOU IN MIND
The PATON™ PRO-630 is a tool that makes every job simpler, more precise, and more comfortable. Features such as adjustable Hot-Start, Arc-Force, and automatic Anti-Stick make starting the weld significantly easier, offering better control over the welding arc and reducing the risk of electrode sticking across various types of electrodes. All of this contributes to smoother, more efficient welding, even under the toughest conditions.
This compact unit is a practical choice for professionals who need precise welding capabilities in diverse industrial and workshop settings. A key element to the effective operation of this device is its nominal current range, from 42 to 49 A, which ensures proper functioning. The PATON™ PRO-630 is a reliable tool that meets user needs, regardless of the challenges they face.
OPEN-CIRCUIT VOLTAGE REDUCTION MODULE IN MMA MODE
The PATON PRO-630-400V model is equipped with an open-circuit voltage reduction module, ensuring safe operation under demanding conditions, such as natural gas tank construction and maintenance tasks. This feature is essential in environments where high electrical safety is a priority. When the electrode is removed from the workpiece, the module automatically reduces the source voltage at the terminals to a safe level below 12V within 0.1 seconds.
The welder has been designed for maximum versatility and ease of use, enabling precise welding with various electrode coatings. The default slope of the current-voltage characteristic (CVS) is set at 1.4 V/A, perfectly suited for popular rutile and rutile-cellulose electrodes, such as the PATON™ 6013 ELITE, widely used in general construction, repair work, and welding of thin steel sheets.
For optimal conditions when working with basic-coated electrodes (e.g., PATON™ 7018 ELITE, PATON™ 7015 ELITE), it is recommended to adjust the CVS slope to 1.0 V/A. This adjustment increases arc stability and improves weld quality. Basic electrodes are ideal for welding thick steel structures, bridges, and load-bearing components, where high joint strength is critical.
For cellulose-coated electrodes, the optimal CVS slope is between 0.2 and 0.6 V/A. Cellulose electrodes, such as E6010 and E6011, excel in challenging field conditions where weld reliability and durability are paramount. The E6010 electrode, characterized by deep penetration and stable arc, is particularly recommended for welding pipes and structures in the oil and gas industries, especially for vertical positions, including downhill welding. To further enhance arc stability, increasing the “Arc-Force” function to 18V is advised, ensuring better control and improved weld quality.
The Inverter Welder PATON™ PRO 630 combines these features, making it an exceptional tool for professionals who require safety, reliability, and adaptability in challenging welding environments.
CARBON ARC CUTTING OR CARBON ARC AIR CUTTING (CAC OR CAC-A)
The PATON™ PRO 630 welder supports carbon arc cutting (CAC or CAC-Air), a method that melts the metal edge using an electric arc between a carbon electrode and the metal. This technique differs from traditional welding as it focuses on material removal rather than joining.
In the gouging process, the welding current flowing through carbon electrodes generates a plasma arc that melts the metal. In CAC-Air, the molten metal is removed with a stream of compressed air, directed through nozzles to create an even airflow. The required carbon electrode is coated with a copper layer.
The ABICOR BINZEL™ K10 and K12 gouging torches are specifically designed for carbon arc gouging with carbon electrodes and compressed air, intended for industrial and commercial use by qualified personnel. These gouging torches are available as handheld torches and can be used in any welding position. Gouging torches must be operated exclusively with genuine ABICOR BINZEL™ replacement parts.
ADJUSTABLE HOT START PARAMETERS
Our technology ensures optimal ignition performance, guaranteeing efficient arc initiation even with electrodes that have a low ignition potential. This results in deeper and more uniform penetration of the base material right from the ignition stage, minimizing the risk of damage to the workpiece. Additionally, this function actively reduces the risk of slag inclusions during the welding process, ensuring a clean and durable weld.
ADJUSTABLE ARC FORCE PARAMETERS
The adjustable Arc Force parameters are a key feature that allows for precise tuning of welding characteristics to meet the specific requirements of different materials and tasks. This function enables users to manually adjust arc force strength, providing a dual advantage:
- Gentle Operations on Thin Materials: The option to reduce the Arc Force setting to its lowest level is ideal for working with thin metals. This not only conserves energy and optimizes heat distribution but also minimizes the risk of burn-through. However, users should note that arc stability at this setting may resemble that of traditional transformer-based power sources.
- Enhanced Arc Stability: For tasks requiring exceptional arc stability, the Arc Force function can be increased to its highest setting. This ensures excellent stability of a short arc, which is crucial for producing high-quality welds. It’s important to keep in mind that this setting demands robust power supply and may slightly increase the risk of burn-through.
PRECISE AND ROBUST WELDS
PATON International’s pulsed welding technology, encompassing both GTAW LIFT and SMAW PULSE methods, ensures exceptional weld durability and strength.
TIG LIFT PULSE enables precise welding with controlled arc ignition through touching the tungsten electrode to the material and then lifting it (LIFT). When the machine detects this movement, it interprets it as a signal to start the welding process, causing a linear increase in the welding current up to the preset value. The pulsed function in this method involves modulating the welding current in pulses, allowing precise control over heat input and preventing material overheating. This results in high-quality welds, particularly advantageous for welding thin materials or performing in challenging welding positions.
SMAW PULSE AND SHORT ARC: STABLE ARC AND ENHANCED CONTROL
In the context of welding with the SMAW PULSE method, minimizing the risk of short circuits is one of the key advantages of the pulsating welding current.
During pulse welding, two current levels are employed: the base current (lower) and the pulse current (higher). The base current is maintained for most of the duration, serving to stabilize the arc, while the pulse current is applied in short bursts, facilitating the transfer of molten metal droplets from the electrode to the weld pool.
SHORT ARC is a technology that significantly enhances stability when welding with minimal distance between the electrode and the material. This feature is especially useful for tasks requiring delicate and precise arc control, which is essential when welding thin sheets or precision components. It provides better control over the weld pool, reduces spatter, and facilitates welding in various positions, such as overhead or vertical welding. The result is typically shallow penetration, a stable arc, and cleaner welds. However, it’s crucial to select the appropriate electrodes for optimal results.
VOLTAGE STABILIZATION, LONG EXTENSION CORD SUPPORT, AND GENERATOR OPERATION
The PATON™ PRO 630 inverter welder is equipped with a voltage drop protection system, allowing it to operate optimally at a rated current of 630A, even under challenging conditions. The device maintains its efficiency when powered through long extension cords, for instance, up to 65 m with a 6.0 mm² cross-section or up to 40 m with a 4.0 mm² cross-section, as well as when operating with power generators.
The PATON™ PRO 630 can be powered by various types of generators, provided the necessary technical parameters are met. Generators equipped with Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) or an equivalent are especially recommended, with a rated power output matching the specifications in the user manual. It’s essential that the generator’s output voltage remains within the range of 340V – 460V to ensure smooth and safe operation of the device.
For welding with coated electrodes of Ø8 mm and TIG welding using tungsten electrodes up to Ø6.0 mm at a rated current of up to 630A, as well as for MIG/MAG welding with solid wire of Ø2.0 mm, a minimum generator power of 42.0 kVA is recommended.
Conversely, when welding with solid wire of Ø1.2 mm or coated electrodes of Ø6 mm at currents up to 250A, a generator with a power rating of 10.0 kVA will suffice.
INTEGRATED WELDING PARAMETER MEMORY: FASTER SETUP AND GREATER EFFICIENCY
Our welding unit allows the storage of up to 16 programs in each mode: SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW. Upon startup, it automatically launches program number 1, and any adjustments made to settings are saved immediately. With simple program switching at the press of a button, you can quickly return to preferred settings, minimizing downtime. The device’s memory enables saving parameters for various tasks, reducing preparation time and optimizing the welding process.
WIRED REMOTE CONTROL
Remote control for MMA (Manual Metal Arc) welding enables the remote adjustment of welding parameters from a distance, enhancing flexibility during the welding process. This type of system is particularly useful in welding operations conducted in hard-to-reach or hazardous locations. Remote control technology allows operators to adjust welding parameters, such as current intensity, without needing to approach the welder directly. This option is available upon request.
